West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi Pays Homage to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on Death Anniversary

PARTHA ROY, KOLKATA: West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi paid rich floral tributes to legendary writer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the composer of India’s national song “Vande Mataram” , on his death anniversary at Victoria Memorial Hall on 8th April 2026.

Currently the 150th anniversary of the composition of “Vande Mataram” is celebrated across the country and at Indian diplomatic missions abroad, reaffirming the song’s enduring power to inspire national pride.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Ravi said the words of “Vande Mataram” deeply awaken devotion to Bharat Mata among people of all sections and all age groups — from the Himalayas in the north to the seas in the south. He noted that before Independence, the song inspired freedom fighters against colonial rule. Today, it motivates the youth to excel in their professions and contribute wholeheartedly to the progress of the nation.

A colourful cultural programme presented by Sanskar Bharati featured dance and musical performances that showcased Bharat’s rich cultural heritage and the spirit of unity in diversity. The event also highlighted the fraternal bonds that unite Bharatiyas despite various challenges.

Smt. Nilanjana Roy of Sanskar Bharati, Shri Sayan Bhattacharya, Director of the Indian Museum, and eminent personalities attended the programme. In a seperate event, People from all sections of society also paid tributes to revolutionary hero Mangal Pandey on his martyrdom day, remembering his courageous role in sparking the 1857 uprising.
