Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose ( Dum Dum ) International Airport celebrated 100 years of service

PARTHA ROY, KOLKATA: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose ( Dum Dum ) International Airport celebrated 100 years of service on 21st December 2024 in Kolkata .

Establishment of Dum Dum Airport in 1924 marked significant step in Civil Aviation history of India. Dum Dum airport was started as Airstrip .
First flight landed in Dum Dum airport on 14th November 1924 was a KLM flight from Amsterdam enroute to Jakarta in Indonesia. From very beginning Dum Dum airport operated as International airport, and was busiest airport eastern region of India..
Today , Dum Dum airport having 17 MW Solar energy plant and operating fully with clean energy. In 1995 , Dum Dum Airport was renamed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (NSCB) Airport. In 1938 , Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose landed at then Dum Dum airport.
Union Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu in his address mentioned NSCB airport will be expanded and upgraded with construction of new terminal and more facilities for passenger convenience and cargo operations. Union Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu mentioned in his address his efforts will be transform Civil Aviation sector in to passenger centric. Shri Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu is youngest Cabinet Minister in Modi Government. On 31st March 2024 , DigiYatra became fully operational at this airport.
To mark 100 years celebration , for passenger convenience, ” UDAN Yatri Cafe” was launched by Union Minister as pilot project so that traveling passengers can get reasonably priced food during travel through the airport. Union Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu also launched commemorative coin , postage stamp to mark 100 years celebration.
