NEWS WAVE INDIA: Metro Railway in Kolkata has implemented comprehensive measures to prevent the spread of Dengue and Malaria during the monsoon season. As mosquitoes are the carriers of these vector-borne diseases, the Metro authorities are actively combatting the issue through regular Anti-Malaria and Anti-Dengue spraying within the Metro premises.

Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager of Metro Railway, has instructed officials to ensure that rainwater does not accumulate within the Metro premises. To achieve this, regular cleaning of central drains along the Metro tracks is being carried out. Metro officials and staff are closely monitoring the situation, particularly in the underground sections where sump cleaning is conducted regularly to prevent the accumulation of rainwater. Inside the tunnel, the central drain is kept clean to facilitate smooth water flow. Additionally, proper cleaning of drains on the viaducts and surface sections is being emphasized to handle heavy rainfall effectively. As a preventive measure, larvicide is being sprayed in various station premises, drains, tunnels, Metro Quarter Complexes, and Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital.

Furthermore, at Metro car sheds in Noapara, Kavi Subhash, Central Park Depot, and Joka, where round-the-clock maintenance work takes place, fogging operations are being conducted in addition to regular spraying. The same practice is being followed at Metro Rail Bhavan, RPF Barracks, and other office buildings.

The Metro Railway authorities are committed to ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for passengers and employees alike, taking proactive measures to combat the spread of Dengue and Malaria during the monsoon season.
