32nd Delhi Mango Festival: A Feast of Mangoes and Cultural Delights

Dilip Guha, New Delhi: The 32nd Mango Festival organized by Delhi Tourism began at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri. The Delhi Mango Festival, held annually in during summer, is a three festival showcasing varieties of mangoes.

The Festival was inaugurated by Ms. Atishi, Hon’ble Tourism Minister. Ms. Niharika Rai, MD & CEO, DTTDC, Ms. Geetika Sharma, General Manager DTTDC, Sh. Rajesh Rishi, Hon’ble MLA, Janakpuri, and other dignitaries were also present during the inauguration. The mango growers from across the country, mainly from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Delhi, were given an interactive platform to present the ‘king of fruits’.

The Hon’ble Minister Tourism visited the stalls at the Mango Festival and showed her keen interest in the various types of Mangoes on display i.e. includes Dussehri, Langra, Chausa, Rataul, Husnara, Rankela, Alphonso, Kesar, Safeda, Fazli, Himasagar, Kinsington etc. While addressing the gathering; Minister appreciated the efforts of DTTDC in organizing the Mango Festival and various other Festivals which promotes tourism in Delhi.

Delhi Tourism has been hosting the Mango Festival since 1988, to celebrate the variety of flavors offered by the King of all fruits. The only redeeming factor of the unbearable hot Delhi summer is the arrival of the fruit of the season – Mango. Indian summer is incomplete without mangoes and mango products. The people from all over Delhi headed to Dilli Haat and were amazed to see the exotic and different types of mangoes on display.

More than 300 varieties and cultivars of mango are featured in the festival for visitors to view and taste. The festival is also an opportunity for agro-industries and food industries processing mangoes into jams, pickles, fruit juice and canned fruit to display their products. Huge crowd thronged to witness the display of various varities of mangoes some are these rare varieties not easily available at Delhi. They were amazed to see the Mangoes which are as small as a grape and as big as a papaya. The visitors were enthralled by the cultural performances.

The three days Mango festival will conclude on 09th of July 2023. There will be Mango Eating Competition for Men on 08th of July 2023 for which registration fees will be Rs.100/- per entry. The women’s event is slated for July 9. A slogan writing contest and a mango quiz has also been planned.

One more interesting offer is going on for the visitors i.e. “Sau Hein Daam Kitne Bhi Khao Aam”. The connoisseurs of India’s most celebrated fruit deserve a festival like this as Indian growers dominate the mango market across the world, with the country producing the most delectable varieties in existence.

Mango Festival turns into a celebration as it bring together Delhiites it’s only apt for the lovers of the fruit to get to check out all the varieties at one place and also enjoyed colourful entertainment programmes.
