PARTHA ROY, KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari on Friday , June 5 , 2026 launched a year-long “A Tree in Name of Mother” campaign on World Environment Day at Nabanna in Howrah. Shri Adhikari stressed the importance of caring for Mother Earth, which sustains all life, and said the state government is working to involve every section of society in the green drive, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” vision.
Separately, as part of the same statewide campaign — which will run till March 2027 — the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised a plantation and awareness programme at the CII-Suresh Neotia Centre of Excellence for Leadership, Kolkata. West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh, Minister in Charge of Agricultural Marketing, Panchayats & Rural Development, and Animal Resources Development, attended the CII event as Chief Guest. Ghosh urged citizens to shun single-use plastic, adopt sustainable bags, and plant trees year-round, declaring, “Protecting the environment is our collective responsibility.”
