“Thai Gallery” inagurated at Rabindra Bharati to celebrate 75 years of India-Thailand Diplomatic Relationship

Partha Roy, Kolkata: “Thai Gallery ” inaugurated at Rabindra Bharati University Museum by West Bengal Education Minister Shri Bratya Basu in presence of Her Excellency Ms. Pattarrat Hongtong, Ambassador of Thailand to India, Consul General of Thailand in Kolkata Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas, Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University Professor Sabyasachy Basu Ray Choudhury, Registrar of RBU Dr. Subir Mitra on 24th June 2022 at Jorasanko Thakur Bari in Kolkata as a part of celebration of 75years of establishment of India Thailand Diplomatic Relationship.

India and Thailand have historical cultural connect spanning over many centuries. Inauguration ceremony of Thai gallery was attended by top diplomats in the city including Consul Generals of China, Italy, Japan, Germany, British Deputy High Commissioner, as well as diplomats from USA and Russia.

Thai gallery hosts exhibition titled “Tagore’s visit to Siam: Prelude to the Modern Day chapter of Thai -Indian Relations “. The exhibition showcases the story of Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Siam in 1927. Thailand was formerly known as Siam. During the visit ,Tagore had opportunity to have an audience with His Majesty King Prajadhipok ,Rama VII.

The important modern day linkage in the exhibition is Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s royal visit to Kolkata and to Jorasanko Thakur Bari , the House of Tagore family on 22 July 2014.

Idea of establishing the exhibition to narrate about Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Siam in 1927 originated from Mr. Norachit Sinhaseni former Permanent Secretary in Foreign Ministry of Thailand in 2016.

The Thai gallery will inspire young Indian and international public to explore multifaceted Thailand India relationship as well as facilitate to develop deeper understanding and strengthen people to people relationship between two nations of Asia.
