PARTHA ROY, Kolkata: The Russian Community in Kolkata observed  Patriot’s Day on 9th May 2025  to pay homage to their ancestors who laid down their lives during World War II to protect the freedom of their motherland on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. Consul General of Russia in Kolkata Mr. Maxim V. Kozlov, paid homage to the souls of the ancestors of the Russian community as well as to the souls of all soldiers from friendly countries who laid down their lives to protect the freedom of the people of Russia, then the Soviet Union, during World War II.

A minute of silence was observed  by all participants in this solemn occasion to pay homage to all the souls of  bravehearts from Russia & friendly countries. Timing of paying Homage to the souls  of Great Patriots was synchronised  with  time of  paying Homage in Red square in Moscow lead by President of Russia Mr. Vladimir Putin. It was great and solemn occasion to  pay homage  to  all souls of bravehearts of Russia and friendly nations  as well as share spirit of reverence  and unity. It was occasion to strengthen intergenerational connection in Russian society and bond of friendship amongst friendly nations. 

Live broadcasting of Military  Parade to observe Victory Day celebration on 9th May  held in Red Square, Moscow, was organised at Gorky Sadan to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. Moscow Victory Day Parade celebrated 80th anniversary  of the defeat of Nazi Germany and the end of World War II in Europe.

Many families in then Soviet Union  lost  their family members during Great Patriotic War.  Mr. Maxim Kozlov  mentioned he lost his both maternal and paternal grandfathers during World War II while addressing the gathering. Scars of the war still visible  in the present generation of family members of Great Patriots. President Vladimir V Putin addressed the Moscow ceremony . President Putin in his address paid  homage  to all who participated  in   Great Patriotic  war  and appreciated contribution of  friendly nations. 
 
In Kolkata , Russian Community took out a march  taking photos of the relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War between 1941-1945 and official replica of the Soviet Victory banner brought specifically from Moscow for the Victory Day for commemorative ceremony of Immortal Regiment. Ms. Irina Malysheva of Russian House Kolkata  brought official replica of the Soviet Victory banner  from Moscow for commemorative ceremony Immortal Regiment.
