Padma Awards: Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj awarded Padma Vibhushan

NEWS WAVE INDIA: Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, was awarded the Padma Vibhushan award posthumously. Her daughter Bansuri Swaraj received the award at the hands of President Ram Nath Kovind.


Along with that Olympian PV Sindhu, actor Kangana Ranaut honoured with the Padma awards by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Padma awards ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.


Among other prominent names who have been honoured with the prestigious civilian awards include singers Adnan Sami and Suresh Wadkar, Hindustani classical exponent Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, former Head Scientist, ICMR to name a few.


Rani Rampal, a player of the women’s hockey team were also awarded Padma Shri. Air Marshal Dr Padma Bandopadhyay received the Padma Shri award in the field of medicine by President Kovind in a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

A total of 119 Padma awards were presented by President Ram Nath Kovind. The list comprises seven Padma Vibhushan awards, 10 Padma Bhushan awards and 102 Padma Shris.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are among those present for the function.
