Science City, Kolkata and The Kidney Care Society have planned to celebrate the International Day of Yoga with underprivileged children and school children in the Science City premises on June 21, 2023. The event will be a one-of-a-kind initiative at the heart of the city as several dignitaries and sports personalities like Ms Soma Biswas, Commonwealth games Gold medallist and Arjun Awardee, Mr Ali Qamar, Chief Coach of Indian Women Boxing team and Shri A. D. Choudhury, Director General, National Council of Science Museum (NCSM) will be present during this live session.

Following the Common Yoga Protocol, renowned nephrologist and philanthropist Dr. Pratim Sengupta will conduct the live session to promote Yoga as a medium to attain a healthy life. Dr. Sengupta believes that Yoga and healthy lifestyle practices are essential for the overall development of a child and hence should become a part of their daily routine.

This year’s International Day of Yoga (IDY) endeavors to connect with the larger global community, as India’s G20 presidency theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future” resonates with the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. Along with global outreach, the IDY focuses on taking Yoga to each and every household in India through the active participation of each and every family with a spirit of “Har Aangan Yog”.

“We have planned to acquaint the underprivileged children with Common Yoga Protocol to encourage them to adopt yoga in their daily lives. This resonates with the spirit of “Har Aangan Yog” in the true sense.” – said Shri Pramod Grover, Director-In-Charge, Science City, Kolkata.

The Kidney Care Society has been on this active mission for more than 10 years and has conducted different activities to promote wellness and relaxation through the healing practice of Yoga. The organization believes in approaching the problem of kidney diseases from all possible angles, through diet and lifestyle education by spreading awareness and through a series of activities.

Officials of NCSM in Kolkata will also participate in the yoga session. The entire initiative will directly influence over 500 kids participating in the yoga session.
