India Post launched “Gangasagar Ganga jal” on Guru Purnima in Kolkata

Partha Roy, Kolkata: India Post launched “Gangasagar Ganga jal” on Guru Purnima at iconic GPO (General Post Office) Building in Kolkata.

India Post released a Special postal cover to celebrate launch “Gangasagar Ganga jal” on Guru Purnima i.e. on 3rd July 2023. Shri Anil Kumar Post Master General MM & BD Region mentioned India Post is 250 Years old institution which is serving people of India and the world in multifarious ways and launching of Gangasagar Ganga jal project which is part of providing another service to the people & community. Gangasagar Ganga jal was launched by Shri Anil Kumar Post Master General MM & BD Region, in august presence of Shri Sanjiv Ranjan, Post Master General Kolkata Region and Smt Bipasha Singla Director Of Postal Services Kolkata.

Gangasagar is about 100km South of Kolkata is the place where holy river Ganga merges with Bay of Bengal sea starting its journey from Gomukh in Gangotri and considered as one of the holiest place as per Hindu beliefs. Gangasagar or Sagar Island is not only a holy pilgrimage but an intricate intermingling of emotion and faith. Lakhs of devotees from across India take holy dip on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. As Hindu and Bengali diaspora is present across India, India Post West Bengal circle has decided to make holy water available to people in all corners of India.

Each Gangasagar Ganga jal pet bottle is priced ₹30 and contain 250 ml of Ganga jal sourced from Gangasagar. Currently, India Post is producing 1000 bottles per day which will be expanded depending upon market demand conditions. Gangasagar Ganga jal will be available in all Post Offices in Kolkata in next 3-4 days and across all most all 1100 Post Offices in West Bengal by 15th July 2023 as indicated by Shri Anil Kumar.

India Post through its “Gangasagar Ganga jal” project is making effort to promote rich spiritual heritage of India. Earlier India Post started marketing Ganga jal sourced from Gomukh in Gangotri since 2016 which is continuing. To fortify the venture of Department of Post ,West Bengal circle has taken special initiatives for distribution and vending of Gangasagar Ganga jal through its Post Offices. The price and quantity of Gangasagar Ganga jal is in line with Gangajal of Gangotri.

Gangasagar Ganga jal will be available at Post Offices in Port Blair Andaman, Gangtok Sikkim. Ganga jal from Gangotri is also available in Post Offices. As month of Shravan is going to start within upcoming few days, and there is religious practice to bathe Bhagwan Shiva with Ganga jal every day, India Post is expecting huge demand for bottled Gangasagar Ganga jal. Also, within next 2 month Hindu religious festival season will be starting including Ganesh utsav as well as Navaratri, when devotees use ganga jal as part of religious rituals. Gangasagar Ganga jal will be available in Post Offices across West Bengal so people can visit Post Offices to buy it.
