Artificial Intelligence (AI) is catalyzing Socio -Economic Evolution transcending geopolitical boundaries

Partha Roy, Kolkata: Human societies on the planet Earth is under going fast paced evolution with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) since 1950s. AI is playing critically important role in areas of national and international security for more than half a century as well as maintaining global peace and harmony.

With the advancement of information technology and its wide spread application in various sectors of economy, AI is changing the way of doing business transcending many geopolitical socio-cultural barriers and challenges as well as promoting “ease of doing business” including increasing productivity, facilitating standardisation of quality, optimisation of resources deployment, supply chain & logistics management and more.

A special session on AI titled “Artificial Intelligence: The Next Wave” was organised on 14th June 2024 in Kolkata by Calcutta Chamber of Commerce which was established in 1830, one of Asia’s oldest business chamber. Three pioneer applicator of AI in various business processes and sectors and domain specialists from Kolkata, who had implemented & implementing AI in various business activities and made positive changes Shri Debashis Sen IAS (Retired) Shri Sandeep Sengupta and Shri Sumesh Duggar addressed the special session.

Debashis Sen spoke on scope & opportunity of application of AI in improving wide spectrum business activities in every sector of industries and economy. Sen mentioned AI improving productivity & quality of services many fold . Sen said Kolkata’s Charnok Hospital is using AI to monitor patients. Sen also mentioned about role of AI in improving treatment of patients, hospital management, service of tourism & hospitality industries, telecommunication, urban planning and development, education delivery mechanism as well as education as whole.

Sen stressed need for developing rules and regulations on application of AI in collaboration with global stakeholders to avoid any misuse of AI that can cause human made disaster in life of single individual to entire humanity. Sumesh Duggar mentioned he and his team have developed AI technologies to understand emotions and expression. Duggar said adoptation of AI will increase creativity many times. Sandeep Sengupta said application of AI tools is enhancing Cybersecurity, improving crime detection, individual crime analysis and more. Sengupta also mentioned about prompt engineering. Sengupta said AI is a tool & will benefit humanity when proper human ethics is used while deploying AI.
Earlier Shri Hari Shankar Halwasiya President of CCC in his welcome address mentioned about Human -AI collaboration with a view to introduce human agents at strategic points within otherwise automated systems.

Shri Anurag Jhunjhunwala Vice President CCC introduced the speakers and moderated the session. CCCLF President Smt. Manjula Jain and other members of Ladies Fourm attended the special session. Shri Anant Saharia Senior Vice-president CCC while delivering vote of thanks said AI can improve productivity for organisations as well as open up new paths of growth and development.
