PARTHA ROY, Kolkata: International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem was observed by Concern For Calcutta and Calcutta Citizens’ Initiative by organising special session on ” Kolkata Climate Action Plan ” to spread awareness about specific Climate Action initiative planned by Kolkata Municipal Corporation and West Bengal Government on the inspiration of West Bengal Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on 26th July 2025 for city of Kolkata and it’s surrounding areas.
Addressing the special session, Shri Debashish Kumar MLA & MMIC Parks & Square KMC, stressed Kolkata Municipal Corporation ( KMC) is first municipal corporation in India which has its own Climate Action Plan to protect and minimise impact of climate change on residents of Kolkata. He further added KMC has focused it’s climate action initiative to protect most vulnerable section of the society specially slum dwellers.
Environmental activist Shri Ajay Mittal in his address highlighted urgent need for taking relevant steps to minimise Climate change impact for citizens of Kolkata and it’s surrounding. Environmental Journalist, Dr. Jayanta Basu Convener of K- CAP highlighted various aspects of Kolkata Climate Action Plan. Currently, K-CAP is open for public deliberation .
