PARTHA ROY, KOLKATA: In a major boost to India’s maritime security, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three advanced indigenously built naval warships at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port , June 21, 2026 . The landmark tri-commissioning uniquely coincided with World Hydrography Day, underscoring India’s growing strategic and technological domain awareness.
Constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) with over 75% indigenous content, the simultaneous induction marks a monumental milestone for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” . The three frontline platforms serve highly specialized roles:
* “INS Dunagiri” :A Project 17A stealth frigate armed with BrahMos supersonic missiles and advanced air defence systems.
*”INS Sanshodhak” : A state-of-the-art Survey Vessel (Large) equipped for deep-water oceanographic data collection, fittingly commissioned on World Hydrography Day to aid offshore development.
* “INS Agray” : An Arnala-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft designed to neutralize underwater threats using advanced torpedoes.

The deployment of these stealth, hydrographic, and anti-submarine assets significantly fortifies the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and safeguards the nation’s critical sea lines against evolving geopolitical threats.
