Indian Bengali Hindu origin Australian Barrister Varun Ghosh became Senator of Australian Parliament

Partha Roy, Kolkata: An Indian Bengali Hindu origin Australian Barrister & Politician Varun Ghosh became first Indian and first Bengali Hindu Senator of Australian Parliament.

Varun Ghosh was appointed by the Parliament of Western Australia in a joint sitting on 1 February 2024 to represent in Senate as Senator of Western Australia in Australian Federal Parliament. Varun Ghosh is representing the Australian Labor Party (ALP) & nominated by the ALP.

Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs & Leader of the Government in Senate, Senator Penny Wong welcoming Varun Ghosh wrote “Welcome to Varun Ghosh, our newest Senator from Western Australia. Senator Ghosh is the first ever Australian Senator sworn in on the Bhagavad Gita. I have often said, when you’re the first at something, you’ve got to make sure you’re not the last #VarunGhosh on Tuesday became the first ever India-born member of the Australian Parliament to take oath on #Bhagavadgita. Varun Ghosh from Western Australia has been appointed as the newest Senator after the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council chose him to represent the Australian state in the Senate of the Federal Parliament.” ( ‘X’ platform/ @SenatorWong)

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcoming Varun Ghosh wrote on his ‘X’ platform (@AlboMP) “Welcome Varun Ghosh, our newest Senator from Western Australia.Fantastic to have you on the team.”
