AYUSH Set to Reduce India’s Healthcare Costs with Affordable, Holistic Solutions

PARTHA ROY, KOLKATA: India’s Ayush sector has surged from $3 billion in 2014 to $24 billion in 2023, boasting a 17% CAGR. CII Eastern Region hosted the inaugural Ayush Manufacturing Conclave 2025 on November 19 in Kolkata. West Bengal now leads Germany in homeopathic manufacturing capacity.

Mr. Sharad Kumar Dwivedi, IAS, West Bengal Health Secretary, urged blending traditional and modern medicine, unveiling plans for a medicinal plant cluster and wellness centers in hilly areas and tea gardens to boost medical tourism.

Ms. Dhivya Loganathan, IAS, Special Secretary and DG AYUSH, prioritized infrastructure and R&D, noting three Ayush colleges, four homeopathy colleges, and ten hospitals statewide.

Dr. Yadu Mooss of Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda reported a 20% drop in Kerala’s Ayurvedic units post-Covid, alongside rising contract farming and Ayush-allopathy integration.

Prof. Manoshi Roychowdhury highlighted demand for plant-based remedies, while Dr. Sudipta Narayan Roy of Powell Group eyed Southeast Asian exports, positioning Bengal as an Ayush corridor under “Brand Bengal – Make in India.” Excellence awards presented to key stakeholders.
