PARTHA ROY, KOLKATA: In a significant step towards strengthening governance in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expanded his Council of Ministers on Monday, 1st June 2026, taking the total strength to 41, including the Chief Minister. Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office to the newly inducted ministers at Lokbhawan in Kolkata at 11 am, marking what the BJP describes as a “new dawn of development” in the state.

The expanded cabinet comprises 41 Ministers. On Ist June, 13 new Cabinet Ministers, 3 Ministers of State (Independent Charge), and 19 Ministers of State took oath.

Prominent faces among the new inductees include senior BJP leader and veteran journalist Swapan Dasgupta, Arjun Singh, Manoj Oraon, and Jagannath Chattopadhyay.

Portfolio allocation for the newly inducted ministers is expected to be announced on Wednesday. On May 9, Suvendu Adhikari and five other MLAs were sworn in, with the Chief Minister retaining key departments including Home, Hill Affairs, Health, Law, and Finance. Other senior leaders like Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, and Kshudiram Tudu were also assigned important portfolios earlier.

Shri Samik Bhattacharya MP and President of Bharatiya Janata Party West Bengal, Smt. Agnimitra Paul President of Women’s wing Bharatiya Janata Party West Bengal and veteran BJP leaders were present at the oath taking ceremony.

The expansion is being seen as a move to consolidate the BJP government’s administrative machinery and accelerate development initiatives across the state. The Ministers are expected to implement Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of development in the state.
