Partha Roy, Kolkata: Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare, Government of India Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya laid Foundation Stone of permanent campus of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Kolkata, at Panihati in Kolkata on 25th August 2023.
The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of the NIPER-K was held following best of vedic tradition with chanting of mantras. The Ceremony took place in the august presence of Prof V Ravichandiran, Director, NIPER Kolkata, Dr. Jayanta Chakrabarti, Director, Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital, Kolkata; Ms. Nirja Saraf, Managing Director, BCPL, Kolkata; Dr. Hiranmoy Chattopadhyaya, M.L.A., and Shri Awadhesh Kumar Choudhary, Sr. Economic Advisor, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizer Government of India.
The permanent campus is being constructed at an investment of ₹ 78 crores. The project is executed by CPWD and expected to be completed in 20 months approximately. The permanent campus of NIPER-K is constructed on land of India’s first modern pharmaceutical company Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited established nearly century ago by Father of Indian Chemistry Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, announced ₹ 78 crores for the construction of a permanent campus of NIPER KOLKATA in Panihati and 100 crores to build the centre of excellence. Dr.Mansukh Mandaviya expressed the amplitude of Indian pharma industries and their manufacturing capacity by saying, “4 out of 1 pill consumed in the world is made in India.
Pharmaceutical sector in India is undergoing evolutionary change under visionary leadership of Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. In fact , entire health care sector in India is undergoing evolutionary transformation.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya is implementing vision of Prime Minister of India to transform and establish India as ” Pharmacy of the world” as well as expand Indian pharmaceutical industry. Union Minister said India is trusted partner on health with large no.of countries. For India, “Health is Seva”.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya mentioned Union Government is taking integrated approach in development of various sub-sectors within broad healthcare sector. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya mentioned about approval of “Pharmaceutical Research Policy” by Union Cabinet recently. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya mentioned NIPERs across the country will be promoting high-end medical & pharmaceutical research and will be developing academia & industry partnership in the field of research and innovation in collaboration with more than 8000 MSME pharma companies.
Union Minister said all NIPERs in the country will be transformed into Centre of Excellence in their respective domain. Minister further added research scholars will be encouraged to develop entrepreneurship to harvest fruits of their research .To encourage entrepreneurship ideas Union Minister announced ₹150 crores for 150 innovative ideas. Union Minister said three bulk drug manufacturing parks are being built at a cost of more than ₹1000crores .He also added four medical devices parks are being developed in the country.
Earlier, Prof V Ravichandiran, Director, NIPER Kolkata, welcomed the dignitaries and presented the achievements of the institute. Prof V Ravichandiran expresses sincere gratitude on behalf of Chairman, Board of Governors to Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Ms. S. Aparna, Secretary, Dept. of Pharmaceuticals, NIPER Council for their support and encouragement towards the progress of the institute. He also mentioned the establishment of “Centre for Marine Therapeutics” and “Rare Disease Therapeutics” which aim to provide affordable medicines to society. He further informed that the Institute will establish a Centre of Excellence in Flow Reactor and Continuous Manufacturing with the funding support of ₹.100 Crores from the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India. NIPER-K is expected to play a major role in pharmaceutical industry globally in time ahead.
