NEWS WAVE INDIA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha has a range of potential consequences, including being barred from contesting elections for eight years and losing his official bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat quickly notified Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lower House of Parliament after a court in Surat convicted him in a 2019 criminal defamation case, sentencing him to two years of imprisonment.

The notification stated that Gandhi stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha representing the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency of Kerala from the date of his conviction, which was 23 March, 2023.
