Kolkata Citizens Reception to Padma Sri Sivananda Swami, World’s oldest living man

Partha Roy, Kolkata: Citizens of Kolkata welcomed and honoured 126 year old Padma Sri Sivananda Swami, the world’s oldest living man by organising a grand reception at Rabindra Sadan on 23rd June 2022.

Sovandeb Chattopadhyaya felicitated Padma Sri Sivananda Swami

West Bengal Government’s Minister Sri Sovandeb Chattopadhyaya felicitated Padma Sri Sivananda Swami on behalf of the Government and People of Kolkata and West Bengal. Religious leaders of various faiths were present to greet and felicitate Swami Sivananda ji.

Swami Suparnananda, Head of Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, Kolkata spoke on life of Swami Sivananda. Senior monks from various branches of Ramakrishna Mission graced the occasion. People from all walks of life came to the Citizens’ Reception to honour as well as to have glimpse of world’s oldest living man and yogi.

The Grand cultural program was organised in honour of Swami Sivananda. Children and women performed various forms of yoga demonstrations. Dancers and singers presented medley of song and dance including a grand Odisi dance performance.

Swami Sivananda was born at Haripur village of Srihatta District in British India currently in Bangladesh in 1896. Swami Sivananda’s guru is late Sadguru Omkarananda Goswami of Nabadwip in Nadia district of West Bengal.

Swami Sivananda ji has followers from across India and in many European countries as well as in USA. Sivanand Ashram has its headquarter at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Sivananda Ashram organises a lot of charitable programs throughout the year in different places including in Puri iconic pilgrimage town in Odisha.
