Press Club Kolkata celebrate “Bijoya Sammilani” alongwith Birth Centenary Celebration of Legendary singers “Kanika” & “Suchitra”

Partha Roy, Kolkata: Press Club of Kolkata celebrated “Bijoya Sammilani” on its lawns on 10th November 2023. Bijoya Sammilani was attended by Government of West Bengal Minister Shri Shobhondev Chattopadhyay, Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Janab Andalib Elias and Mrs. Elias alongwith several other diplomats from Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, top bureaucrats from Central and State governments, Past Presidents of Press Club of Kolkata, and others.

Bijoya Sammilani is annual program of the club where club members, journalists from all media, celebrities, publishers, top Government Ministers, politicians across all political parties gather to celebrate the spirit of victory of good over evil in unique ways including through Cultural Program.

Press Club of Kolkata decided to celebrate Birth Centenary of two legendary Bengali Rabindra Sangeet exponents, Kanika Bandopadhyay (12th October 1924 – 5th April 2000) and Suchitra Mitra (19th September 1924 – 3rd January 2011) as a part of Bijoya Sammilani program. Birth Centenary Celebration of Lengendary singers of Rabindra Sangeet as a part of Bijoya Sammilani was brainchild of Shri Saibal Biswas who is Vice President of the Club. Saibal Biswas also anchored the program.

Shri Kingshuk Pramanik Secretary of Press Club of Kolkata highlighted various activities of the club in his welcome address. Shri Snehashish Sur President of Press Club of Kolkata greeted everyone on occassion of Celebration of Bijoya Sammilani. Shri Sur highlighted role of the club in organising Cultural Programs as well as expansion of the club in new growth trajectories.

Eminent analyst and artist Shri Swapan Shome spoke on contribution and life of both the lengendary singers. Eminent multi-lingual Bengali singer Smt. Swagatalaxmi Dasgupta sang several popular Rabindra Sangeet those were sung earlier by the both Legends during their life time.

Priyam Mukhopadhyay, Ritapa Bhattacharya, Ritaja Choudhary presented several Rabindra Sangeet those were sunged by Kanika Bandopadhyay popularly known as “Mohar Di”. Kanika Bandopadhyay started learning music from very early age at Vishwa Bharati and had opportunity to sing songs in presence of noble laureate and great polymath poet Rabindranath Tagore.
