Government support needed to boost Indian Tea industry
Partha Roy, Kolkata: On International Tea Day , a program titled “Futuristic Tea ” was organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in collaboration with Tea Association of India (TAI) on 21st May 2024 in Kolkata.
The program deliberated on various issues and challenges involving Indian Tea industry and explored potential solutions. The speaker stressed on need to spread awareness on health benefits of tea consumption as well as need for market expansion in domestic market involving youths. Tea industry is playing important role in sustainable development of the planet , creates employment in fact historically playing significant role in socio–cultural-economic development.
Program was attended by Dr Subrata Gupta, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Food Processing & Horticulture Department, Government of West Bengal; Mr. Debasish Sen, IAS, Former CMD, WBHIDCO; Ms Shailja Mehta, Vice President, Tea Associstion of India; Ms Chaitali Das, Director, Rakshak Group & MD, Route2Jute Pvt Ltd; Mr Vikram S Gulia, Chairman, ICC Tea Committee; Mr. Ravi Suchanti, Co-Chair, ICC Tea Committee; and Ms Susmita Dasgupta,Tea Artist and ICC Tea Committee Member , Shri P. K. Bhattacharjee Secretary General of Tea Association of India.
